Keyboard support in finder for selecting multiple, if seperate, files

Submitted by tomerb on August 20, 2008 to Usability

Without using the mouse at all: other than holding down shift while pressing the arrow keys, there's no option of selecting multiple files in finder.

In Windows, holding CTRL while moving leaves the selection intact, and pressing SPACEBAR adds to the selection.

Have you tried command-clicking (command, cmd or apple key)?

Does exactly the same thing as CTRL-clicking in Windows Explorer.

I agree completely with abitgone - the functionality is already there. This submission should be removed.

Edit: I clearly missed "Without using the mouse at all"; changed my vote.

Clicking is via mouse. I'm talking about selection without using the mouse.

Macs were made, from the beginning, to use the mouse. Start using Mac.

Another anoying quirk is, than if I select with the keyboard, I can't "select back"/unselect. This happens quite often to me. I try to select several files and select on that I don't intented to select. There is just want option: use the mouse to unselect. In windows/linux I can use the opposite direction key to undo my last selection.

@Jasper: what if there are persons who like to use the keyboard AND like the look & feel of mac os?
Carriages originally where made to be pulled by humans or horses ... Should we not use cars, because they have engines to drive them? Should we not want to use hydrogene or solar energy in the future, because engines originally where designed to burn fuel?
I don't understand your point?
