Non-resizing windows and lists

Submitted by baliset on August 12, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

There are many examples of Apple-included preferencepanes, utilities or interface elements that can't be resized to show the full width of items in lists, despite there being obvious needs to be able to do so. For example, the Login window itself can't be resized and we use it to display over 700 users at a School, many of which are truncated with the "..." to fit them in. Another glaring example is the Printer list. Who designed this dialog to fit ALL a users printers into this tiny, non-resizable window where most names are truncated to fit them in? The Printer Utility under Tiger was far superior and yet again this is an example of a feature downgrade in Leopard.

Make all such dialogs resizable. Better still, move printer management back out into its own utility, which was better in Tiger.
