Saving the original location info for files in Trash
When trying to restore files deleted to the Trash, the information about the original location of the file, maybe as an additional column in the Trash folder view, could have been very helpful.
With such info, It would have been much easier to quickly find and identify the restore candidates.

This does seem like a no brainer... and yet we don't have it.
First post here on Aqua Taskforce. I'm a reg on the window one. but I'm thinking of switching to mac. I promoted this one as its a very good reverent suggestion. I know I delete files all the time in vista.
There was once a shortcut using command-Y which "put back" the item to its original location.
It said that this is fixed in Snow Leopard.

Now (in Snow Leopard) if you right-click an item in the bin you have the option to
"put back" the file. A lot more useful than before but it still lacks the info about the previous file location. It would be great if you could just click on the file in the trash and get info and then in the info window the original file location would be given before the file was put in trash.
Yea, this is almost fixed. If any other app other the finder removes the file, it doesn't remember where it was.
There were files that I found in my trash that I did not recognize. They did however have the 'Put Back' option enabled. That being the case, the information about the original location has to be somewhere and I wanted to see it. I have not been able to coerce this information out of OSX (10.7) directly so I tried some indirect methods.
First, because the files never actually leave their original location (just get put into a .trashes folder) I tried to search for hidden files that matched the name of the file in the trash. This didn't work.
Then, I tried to restore the file and then search for it. Also didn't work. (I suspect the problem is that even though I search for both visible and invisible files the file was put back into a folder that was itself hidden and finder search can't find (in)visible files in hidden folders)
Finally I found a workaround that was even simpler than the search method. Simply open a 'get info' dialog of the file in the trash. Then, leaving the dialog open, put back the file. The files location will be updated in the 'Get Info' despite Apple's best efforts to prevent you of obtaining such knowledge of your own files.
You can then redelete it you wish. Now we have a workaround, although this info should be natively supported....

This is one of the *few* things I miss after making the switch from Windows. And while we're at it, how about also including the date/time the file was deleted? After all, if Windows can do it, surely OS X can, too! :-)
