Spotlight to scan network drives

Submitted by HIP70890 on February 7, 2010 to Bug

Apple has de-actived spotlights scans on network shares on snow leopard clients. Tags are now only being created on the local system and on Mac OSX Server, which results in not finding files on the network shares when searching for them via Spotlight.

The feature was available in Mac OS X Tiger, but actually caused heavy workload on the network shares when multiple client Splotlight instance tried to create the meta-tags.

On the other hand, there is no feature to acutually activate this functionality at will. Therefore the OS is taking decision over how I want to use my Mac.

Provide a feature by which I can make Spotlight scan the remote network drives. Either all or better for selected drives.
