Application icons are not refreshed when an app is freshly installed
Usually when you install a new application or update an existing application the system uses a "default" icon for that app in the application list until you start the application.
The problem is that even when the app is started for a few times the "default" icon usually remains and is not updated with the proper app icon. It takes a system restart to refresh the icons. The problem is that sometimes you cannot find the app because you are looking for that specific icon. I noticed this in Leopard and the bug remains even in SnowLeopard.
A simple refresh of the icons after the app is started would do the trick.
