QuickTime X is missing some features

Submitted by bastyani on August 30, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

(applies to the new QuickTime X - part of the new Snow Leopard 10.6)
The new QuickTime X is missing some features that are otherwise found in the older QuickTime versions. For example there is no possibility to show the timecode or frame number instead of the time. I also cannot find where to enter the "MEDIA KEYS" to play encrypted movies. There are also no preferences nor in the program
itself nor in the System Preferences where older QT versions used to have preferences. QT X still does not play wmv files. The audio bar graph where you were able to see that there is audio (with jumping dots) is now also missing.
PS: other than that I like the new QuickTime.

Implement features that were already working in previous QT versions.

I'm fairly sure Apple is aware of the shortcomings of QuickTime X. This is why you have the option of installing QuickTime 7.

Just give it time.

Quicktime X is like Cheetah: "We got it to compile, we ship it. We'll turn it into something useful later."
