Safari: download window as tab

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 18, 2009 to Usability

Safari download window is a separate little window on the desktop. Imho this behaviour should be more consistent with the whole UI.
Like the bookmark manager, there should be an option to show the download window in a tab. I can even imagine some kind of "sidebar".

Show the download window in a tab window or in a sidebar.

I can see *maybe* making this an open... but in general I disagree with putting it on a tab. Downloads are conceptually different than pages you are viewing, so they should be in a separate place in the VI. A drawer would be okay... but Apple seems to be moving aware from using those as a UI element, for whatever reason (I like them, personally).

Well, bookmarks are also different to webpages. But nevertheless the bookmark manager is shown in a tab.
The realy drawers are not that good, imho, as they use the space inefficiently. At the top and bottom there is always free sopace. A real sidebar, like the finder or itunes have, would be better than the original sidebar (like in Pages).
