Quicklook: show all folder contents in grid array

Submitted by mojo2012 on March 28, 2009 to Usability

If you select all files in a folder (cmd-a) and then press alt-cmd-y some kind of slideshow starts. If you then press the button with the 4 squares all files of the folder are shown in a grid array with previews.

This is quite usefull if you have lots of pictures or ebooks in a folder.

But it is annoying that there is no shortcut for this: cmd-a, cmd-alt-y + click on a button is not that comfortable.

Either add a new toolbar button or use a modifier key + quicklook toolbar button.
(alt + click on the toolbar button open quicklook in fullscreen mode)

True, but you seem to have a strange solution for this. It should be that if you quicklook a folder, it shows you those contents in a grid. If nothing is selected, it shows you the contents of the folders. Exactly what that Quicklook extension does (but then better, because it just doesn't look good in that extension and I'm sure Apple could make a prettier, more to-the-point and visual one - I'm a visual man). You're right, but your solution is just overcomplicated.

I made a little Applescript application that takes care of the cmd-a and the cmd-alt-y for you, so then all you need to do is click the 4-squares button. This way, you can drag the application into your finder toolbar and with 2 quick mouse clicks, you've got your grid view. Find it here: http://code.google.com/p/quicklook-fullscreen-gallery/
