Finder's back button overrides folder settings

Submitted by migueld on December 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

When using the Finder's back button, it overrides folder settings. That often results in inadequate views for your folders. For example, cover flow is inadequate for a folder that contains generic folders.

History traversal via the back button should respect the folder views in the order and form in which they are traversed. If one goes from a folder in icon view, to one in list view to one in coverflow, then one should be able to revisit those folders in the same order and form as they were visited originally.

Do not override views when using the back button.
