Remove Finder's 'light' unless a finder window is actually open.

Submitted by Explorer5 on October 31, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

Finder always appears to be open - demonstrated by the lighted dot underneath the icon on the desktop. That light should only be active if a finder window is actually open. Sure Apple says that finder is always active, with spotlight etc - but as far as I'm concerned, its a background task until an actual window is open.

Finder's "light" below the icon should only appear when a finder window has been opened. It should not be a permanent fixture.

You misunderstand what that light means. It simply means that the program is running (ie: active in memory) and can be interacted with. The Finder is active in memory and you can interact with it even when it doesn't have a window open.

For example, you can drag and drop files onto the desktop, or text clippings, URLs, etc. The Finder has to be active for those things to work.

Besides, this change would make the system inconsistent, as other apps will also show as active even if they have no windows open. I think the difference would be confusing.
