Finder hotkeys are not system wide

Submitted by Hansii on September 1, 2008 to Annoyance

If I want to for instance connect to a network share I have to select Finder before I can use the hotkey.

Make the most used Finder hotkeys work system wide.

So you can't use, say cmnd+K for a function in Safari? Hotkeys are mapped to the application you're using, so get used to it - since safari can't connect to servers the way Finder does, it shouldn't incorporate the Finder Hotkeys.

I agree, the most hotkeys that are system wide, the fewer hotkeys are available within applications, and since a lot of applications already are using hotkeys finder uses, it would be a huge deal to all of those application users.

I agree that it's too late to change it to the way Windows does it, but designating a special category of hotkeys for system wide functions should be possible.
