Single button to execute a file

Submitted by Hansii on September 1, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy

In order to execute a file you need to press cmd + o, there should be a single button for executing a file, like the "Enter" button, I execute files more often than I rename them.

There's no need for such a thing - MacOS was, since it's inception, made for the mouse. Once you're used to Cmnd+O, you'll use that. I'm used to use Enter to change the filename. Stop living in Windows, start living in MacOS.

i use cmd + arrow down. cmd + arrow up/down browses in folders and cmd + down opens apps when they are selected. For me its even faster that way because i can browse and open with the same keys. Give it a try :)

@Jasper: You really don't want something useful just to differentiate yourself from another OS?

@GRiNSER: It's not really all that useful - I don't know how many times I've accidentally launched applications in Windows because I've tapped the enter key. At least in OS X, I need to explicitly (accidentally?) hit a two-key-combination.

Or accidentally double-click the application.

I like the windows way! There isn't much of a problem with "accidentally" hitting the enter button! I have done it maybe twice in my years of using windows!
