No option to hide menu bar
Unlike the Dock, the Menu bar cannot be hidden. This is annoying as there is not enough space for work, especially for portables.
Get a utility or get a new software update that allows you to hide the menu bar at will and bring it back again.

Besides, apple portables usually provide more than enough screen estate...
Menu bar should always be available, except in full-screen apps. -1.
Come on - it's Apple's Trademark. That's like telling Coca-Cola to remove their logo from the can to make more space for the ingredients!
Again, you're on mac. Live with it and learn to live with the way it works.
Seriously, he just quoted apple corporate literature like it was passage out the torah/bible/koran or gita. iCreepy
@weedmonk
Funny, but that's not exactly what I was going for. I just used the information in the links on the right. That's why Long Zheng put them there.

From Apple Human Interface Guidelines:
"The menu bar provides a consistent location where people can look for commands" and is "always visible and available, except in circumstances such as during a slideshow."
The menu bar is static for usability, and it has been a consistent behavior in the Mac OS for years. If you insist on changing it, there are third-party utilities that can accomplish what you want.
