Column View of Finder needs to be able to show widest contained folder/file names.

Submitted by treizep on August 23, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Each time I use Column View I must click on the buttons at the bottom of the vertical scrollbars to adapt the width of the browsed columns to the widest contained folder/file name !

When mouse is hovering an item which doesn't entirely fit in the column a tooltip needs to be displayed over the item to show whole item name.

Agreed that the small width is a problem. However, when you're looking for a short folder name just to go deeper in the tree, the suggested auto-expansion feature will definitely harm usability.
A more creative solution is required here.
