Keynote: auto-size fonts in textfields

Submitted by mojo2012 on January 11, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I like Keynote because it is simple and easy to use ... sometimes to simple.
If you enter too much text into a textfield, some words just vanish beyond the textfield border. So you have to select all text and set a smaller font size. This is quite (more...)

Copy the powerpoint feature: if the text doesn't fit into the textfield, then it automatically gets smaller. If you are at the bottom of the textfield and then press return to make a new line/bullet point the whole text gets smaller and the new line (more...)

Dock: let users set the orientation

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

My dock is on the left side of the bottom of the screen - it's not centered. This option can only be activated via some "geek tools" like TinkerTool. Why isn't this a standard option of the Dock?
In my opinion it's much (more...)

Let the user set the dock orientation: left/beginning, right/end, center.

Finder: select files with keyboard

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 3, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you select a file in Finder and then use shift and arrow down, the selection is extended to include the next file. If you press shift + arrow up, I would expect to unselect the file and end up with just the original file selected.
But this does (more...)

Adapt the selection functionality so that it works as expected.

Finder: select files with with mouse

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 19, 2009 to Annoyance

If you are using the keyboard to select files shift+arrow keys) you can't unselect files via keyboard, eg. using shift-down selects the orginal file + the file "below", but shift-up, doesn't unselect that last selected file.

Either use the "select-only" mode (addition model of selection?), which allows no unselection (Finder keyboard selection mode) or use allow unselection, both with mouse and keyboard (fixed-point-selection model?, like in konquerero or dolphin) (more...)

Multimonitor: application menu on second monitor

Submitted by mojo2012 on February 6, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

In a multimonitor setup I find it very annoying that there is no menubar on the second screen. Though there is the possibility to drag the menubar to the second screen (in system preferences), but that is not a solution, because then the menubar is missing (more...)

Show the menubar on each screen. Either clone the realy menubar or just show the menu entries, when an application on the second screen is focused.

And NO: using shortcuts is not the solution.
And YES: this should be an option (!), (more...)

Finder: select files by typing letters

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 2, 2009 to Annoyance

If you are in a folder and type a letter, say 'a', then the file selection jumps to the first file beginning with that letter. If there is no file that beginns with that letter, the file with the next letter in the alphabet gets selected: in (more...)

If there is no file with the beginning letter, that has been typed, don't select anything.

Use Icon instead of Application Menu Name

Submitted by mojo2012 on December 22, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

It would be greate to have an OPTION to use the application icon as in the menu instead of the application name.
So to the right of the apple icon there would be the safari icon.

Sometimes it happens to me, that I have an app with (more...)

To be able to use the app icon instead of the name would free some space and (imho) looks great.

Exposé & window shadow

Submitted by mojo2012 on September 27, 2008 to Aesthetics

If you use exposé the shadow around the window disappear suddenly while the windows get arranged. After choosing a window it flys back to it's normal position. Short after that the shadow suddenly re-appears. This looks quirky ...

Make the shadow fade away more softly when using exposé.

Switch User Function in main menu

Submitted by mojo2012 on September 27, 2008 to Usability

It is possible to have a little head in the menu bar at the right side. This menu applet allows you to switch to the login window.

This "Switch User"/Lock function should be in the main menu like shown on the picture.

Switch spaces by hitting the screen border with the mouse

Submitted by mojo2012 on September 27, 2008 to Usability

It would be greate to have a built in function to switch to the right space by just hitting the right screen border with the mouse and stay there for a sec or so.

There is a little tool called Warp, that can do that. I'd prefer a native solution to that problem

Folder Icons: they are UGLY!

Submitted by mojo2012 on September 27, 2008 to Aesthetics

I hate the new Leopard folder icons -. they're just plain ugly. Why not use something more colorful and easy to recognize.

I use the tool LiteIcon to change the folder icons, but some kind of built-in icon-theme-switcher would be nice.

Use different Icons for folders, eg. like the ones in the screenshot.
