Consistent background color during boot, logon, user switching

Submitted by mojo2012 on September 27, 2008 to Aesthetics

While booting up the screen background is white with the little apple in the middle of the screen. Before showing the login window, the background changes to some sort of blue background, changes to another blue again and after that it shows the background (more...)

* The blue background should be black or not being shown at all.
* The cube effect transition should not show the blue background as well - just show the login window + background image.

Unify compress/extract, copy/move, mount

Submitted by mojo2012 on October 16, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

There are three different windows for file system operations:
* copy/move window --> the move windows hat "copy" in its window title ...
* compress/extract --> extract is a "copy" window, compress has its own (more...)

I think it would be much better, if all these functions would use the same window. Just change the window title and description.

Another thing I would like to see, is that all file system operation windows dock together. Or at least each (more...)

Finder: use the searchbox for filtering of folder contents

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 24, 2009 to Usability

The searchbox in the finder window is somehow broken. The fact that everytime you enter a search term the whole computer is searched is simply not understandable (from my point of view).

I (partly) like the way the "searchbox" in vista/win7 works. So I'have an idea how to adapt such a behaviour to Mac OS X:
If you enter text (without pressing return) into the seachbox of a finder window then the folder contents should (more...)

Mail: three pane view

Submitted by mojo2012 on February 4, 2009 to Usability

With modern widescreen displays there is enough space to show the navigation pane, the mail folder and the mail preview side by side (look at the screenshots).
Sadly Mail has just the horizontal split pane, which ihmo is not very useful. You don't (more...)

Implement an optional three pane view for Mail.

Feature Request: add a basic drawing tool

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Usability

Mac OS has a very powerful texteditor, address book, mail app and a browser. But there is not drawing tool. Why? I don't want a photoshop or corel draw. But at least a very basic drawing tool would be nice.

Add a basic drawing tool

Safari: Implement OpenSearch engine support

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

By default Safari just has one search engine: Google. This is annoying. I'm used to have wikipedia in the search box.
There is no option to change the search engine nor is there the possibility to have more than one search engine to choose.

At least let the user choose the search engine.

Better:
Implement the OpenSearch functionality (or some similar concept), eg, like firefox. So you could go to amazon, click a link and a new search engine is added to the list of available (more...)

Finder: integrate SCP connections into "Connect to server"

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Usability

This is a feature request!

It would be nice if the Finder would support ssh/scp connections fia the "connect to server dialog": eg ssh://myserver/share or scp://myserver/share

Implement ssh/scp protocol support for the "connect to server" dialog

Window Management: autosize windows that are larger than the screen

Submitted by mojo2012 on March 29, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

If you start an application (like iCal, Mail, Safari) and maximize it to the screensize the actual window size is stored. The next time the app starts up, the size is restored.
So far, this behaviour is greate.
But if you restart your computer (more...)

Adjust the window width to the current screen width if the window is wider than the screen.

Spotlight: don't scan removeable media

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance

If I plug in a (hfs+) usb hard drive Sportlight begins to scan the volume. As I don't want to search this volume this is completely useless - at least for me.

Make an OPTION in the Spotlight prefpane to disable scanning of external media.

Finder: more columns for detail list view

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Why can Finder just show 7 different file infos in the detailed list view?
What if I want to show mp3 tags in the columns?

Let the user choose of much more file infos in detailed list view:
* mp3 tags (interpret, album title, ...)
* jpeg image infos (width, color depth, ...)
* owner infos, unix acls, ...

And don't make this available (more...)

iCal: add todos

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 15, 2008 to Annoyance

If there is some free space in the todo list, then a double click on the white space adds a new todo item. But if the list is full so there is no white space, the only way to add an item is to use the menubar.

One possible solution is, to add a "add todo" icon to the bottom toolbar. This would look like a +, similar to the "add a calendar"-+.

Or at the top of the list there is a static entry "add new todo" that adds (more...)

Finder: rename files with different owner

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance

If I want to delete a file which I'm not the owner of, then I have to enter my password (I'm in the admin group). The same happens if I want to move a file into a folder with different ownership.
But there is no way to rename a file with (more...)

Let the user rename files with different ownership the same way as normal renaming. Just ask for the password, then enable the rename mode.

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Annoyance

If you're in a meeting and you start up your macbook pro, everone hears the "GONG". That's so annoying.

Sure, you can turn your sound off before shutting down. But what if you forgot?

There is no option (more...)

Finder: Folder View gets confused

Submitted by mojo2012 on October 24, 2008 to Bug

If you use the dropdown menu from (more...)

Finder (feature request): rename more files at once

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 19, 2009 to Usability

Renaming many files in finder is very tedious. Here are two propositions for improving the rename functionality.

It would be cool to have a bulk rename mode. I can think of this two sub modes:
1. If more files are selected and the rename mode is activated, only the first file should be in rename mode. After pressing return to commit the change, the next file (more...)
