Ugly "loading" mouse cursor

Submitted by mojo2012 on July 16, 2009 to Aesthetics

Sometimes a realy ugly loading cursor appears. It seems to be a watch/clock. I think this is something like the "small" loading cursor on windows (mouse cursor + small hour glass).

Remove the cursor or make a nice beachball-like one!

Safari: move "show history" to the top of the history menu

Submitted by mojo2012 on July 9, 2009 to Annoyance

Everytime I want to show the whole history respectivly, all bookmarks, I don't know, where the items are. Show all bookmarks is a the top, show history is at the bottom. This is quite confusing.

Move "show history" to the top of the menu.

Finder: automatically disable icon preview for icon sizes below a certain size

Submitted by mojo2012 on July 7, 2009 to Aesthetics, Usability

I like to have 16x16 icons for certain folders with many content. The problem is, that document files, eg. txt, pdf, doc, etc., have a preview, others, like dmg don't have previews. This makes some files/filetypes unrecognizable.

It would be better, if the preview would be AUTOMATICALLY disabled for small icon sizes. So, If I change from icon view to list view (very small icons) the preview should be disabled automatically.

And yes, I know, that I can disable (more...)

Finder: use the searchbox for filtering of folder contents

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 24, 2009 to Usability

The searchbox in the finder window is somehow broken. The fact that everytime you enter a search term the whole computer is searched is simply not understandable (from my point of view).

I (partly) like the way the "searchbox" in vista/win7 works. So I'have an idea how to adapt such a behaviour to Mac OS X:
If you enter text (without pressing return) into the seachbox of a finder window then the folder contents should (more...)

Finder: opening file removes undo option

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Most of the operations that can be done though finder can be undone afterwards, eg. renaming the fileextension. But if you open a file after doing something, the last operation cannot be undone anymore.

In my case I sometimes get ISO files (more...)

Allow undo even after opening a file between the opening process and the last operation.

Finder: listview and copying files with keyboardshortcut

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If the Finder is in listview and a sub folder is opened with the "triangle" symbol, the shortcut cmd-v doesn't paste the file in the opened/selected subfolder but in the main folder that is opened in the current finder window.

If a sub folder in listview is "opened" (triangle top is on the bottom) and the folder or a file in the folder is selected, then a cmd-v should paste the file into this folder, and not in the folder that is currently shown in the finder window.

Multimonitor: autodetection fails after unplugging second monitor

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 14, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

I have a Macbook Pro and sometimes I connect an external monitor and use it as the main screen. The internal screen is disabled (booting with closed lid). When opening the lid, the internal screen stays black, but after unplugging the external screen, (more...)

Pressing F7 on Macbook Pro should not only rotate the display mode but include the autodetection to check if the second screen is still there.

(I don't know how other Macs handle that).

Finder (feature request): rename more files at once

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 19, 2009 to Usability

Renaming many files in finder is very tedious. Here are two propositions for improving the rename functionality.

It would be cool to have a bulk rename mode. I can think of this two sub modes:
1. If more files are selected and the rename mode is activated, only the first file should be in rename mode. After pressing return to commit the change, the next file (more...)

Finder: select files with with mouse

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 19, 2009 to Annoyance

If you are using the keyboard to select files shift+arrow keys) you can't unselect files via keyboard, eg. using shift-down selects the orginal file + the file "below", but shift-up, doesn't unselect that last selected file.

Either use the "select-only" mode (addition model of selection?), which allows no unselection (Finder keyboard selection mode) or use allow unselection, both with mouse and keyboard (fixed-point-selection model?, like in konquerero or dolphin) (more...)

Safari: incorrect behaviour for "graphite" theme

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 17, 2009 to Aesthetics, Bug

I don't like "traffic light" colors so I always switch to "graphite". This gives the whole system a very consistent chrome look. But the loading indicator of Safari's address bar does always look blue.

Make Safari's loading indicator match the chosen system theme.

Finder: Rename bug with long filenames

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 12, 2009 to Bug

If you try to rename (very) long filenames the "renaming box" shows the first 3 lines. If you then go to the end end select up to the beginning, all lines above the last 3 will not be shown. This makes it impossible to rename the file properly.

Simply fix it.

Click-Through: no consistent behaviour

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 12, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you click on a file in an inactive Finder window then the file gets selected. A click on a toolbar icon doesn't do anything. iCal reacts the same way. But Safari and Mail have no click-through. If Mail is inactive, you can't select a different (more...)

Either completly deactivate click through for all apps or make it the default for all apps.

Safari: maximum simultanious downloads

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 28, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you want to quickly download many files, you have only two choices:
* Either download them all simultaniously
* Or use a download manager tool

I hate downloading simultaniously, because it slows down all downloads and the (more...)

Safari: not switching to space when search is activated

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 26, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

If there is a safari window with an active search (searchbar visible + dimmed website background + highlighted text), then the alt-tab doesn't switch to the space, where the Safari window is. Safari is being activated - the menu bar changes - but (more...)

Make the spaces autoswitch mechanism work while safari has a running search.

Spaces: started apps are shown on top of the spaces overview

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 25, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug

If you start an app and then switch to the spaces overview and wait til the app has finished loading, it shows up in front of the spaces overview.

This looks like in the screenshot.

If apps are started and then spaces is activated, the starting app should be shown on that space, where it has been started.

It should look it has been started before spaces was activated.
