Mail: Conversation View in threaded mail summary

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 30, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Mail allows viewing mails in threads but only shows a summary of the conversation (subject, date, sender) on the summary mail - but not the content of the mails. To view the content of the mails every mail still has to be opened one after another.

If "Organise by Thread" is enabled, the mail summary of the threaded mails should be improved by a Conversation View. If the mails are very huge or the conversation is very long, older mails automatically should collapse (similar to gmail).

Safari: Provide the password assistant on web-account creation

Submitted by Flauchhaus on August 25, 2009 to Usability

The password assistant is a nice and easy to use feature of osx to create safe and rememberable passwords, but most users only see it while setting a user password.
On websites that require account creations it likely won't get used because

Time Machine: Improve backup/restore Performance

Submitted by Flauchhaus on March 17, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Backing up: Time Machine takes way too much time to back up files as small as 20MB and while the backup process is running it uses quite much CPU usage so if the user runs an app/game it slows down quite significantly. The beginning and ending of backups (more...)

Improve backup/restore Performance. Don't just back up files every hour - back them up "live" as they change. Run the backup process with lower HDD/CPU priority so it doesn't slow down the running system/apps/games.

Allow Quicktime streams in browser to be played in fullscreen

Submitted by Flauchhaus on March 7, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Quicktime video streams in browsers cannot be played in fullscreen. There is no button for it and double-clicking also doesn't work. Every mayor flash video player (YouTube...) and even windows media streams in windows can easily be played in Fullscreen (more...)

Add a fullscreen button to the quicktime browser plugin controller.

Spotlight Feature request: Google and URL launcher

Submitted by Flauchhaus on January 31, 2009 to Usability

Feature request: It would be nice to have Google (or other search-engines) integrated into the Spotlight menu. Also it would be nice to open URLs and connect to servers from Spotlight menu even if there is no bookmark for it.

There is (more...)

# Integrate Google search results into the spotlight menu.
The Spotlight plugin should be manageable like any other in the Spotlight preferences.
# Enable opening URLs and a "Connect to server" function when the user enters smb://x.x.x.x (more...)

Finder: Queued file copy/move operations

Submitted by Flauchhaus on January 2, 2009 to Annoyance

When you launch 2 big files copies (File Copy A, then File copy B), the finder do both file copies at the same time. This is utterly inefficient as the HD head constantly move from file A to File B back and forth to copy a bit of A, then a bit of B.

A much more efficient way is to queue the file copy if the files are copied on the same HD, so the computer copies A, then B at full speed because HD Head moves a lot less.
Refinements:
Automatic reordering of the queue to start to do the (more...)

WYSIWYG Font lists in Fontpanel, Fontbook & iApps

Submitted by Flauchhaus on December 12, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

The font panel and font lists in iWork/iLife apps aren't previewing fonts in the list and the preview area is only for the selected font, so its hard to choose fonts if you don't know the exact name of it. -edit: Apple added it in iWork '09!

Preview every font in the font list of the font panel.

Audio-MIDI-Setup: Move Audio settings to System Preferences

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 29, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

All audio preferences should be in System Preferences, not in an application in the utilities folder. Also its quite odd to configure 5.1 Soundcards in it. In Audio-MIDI-Setup you can set up multichannel/multiple sound-cards, midi devices, input/output (more...)

Move all audio preferences where they belong, to the System Preferences.
Make it easier to configure multichannel soundcards.

iTunes: "Loading Playlist window" from internetradio streams should be in the status area

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 29, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When opening internet radio streams a window pops up saying that it loads the playlist of the internet stream. That window is on top of iTunes and preventing any interaction to iTunes unless it gets closed or the playlist is completely downloaded. When (more...)

Front Row: Resume playing music from iTunes

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 17, 2008 to Annoyance

Opening Front row stops the music from iTunes and there is no option to resume it from iTunes in the front row menu. In Tiger, front row worked together with iTunes so it even was possible to close front row and continue playing music in iTunes (which (more...)

Starting Front row shouldn't stop playing music when opened, it should work together with iTunes like it was in Tiger.

Exposé: Automatically update when a new window opens/closes

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When a window opens or closes while expose is activated, Exposé doesn't update automatically, so for example it leaves an "death" window space when a window closes while in expose, or when a new window opens it just shows the window in (more...)

Automatically update Exposé on new/closed windows.
The only downside i could imagine is that new windows wouldn't be that noticeable when many windows are open. A short highlighting of the new window in Exposé would fix that nicely, also (more...)

Delete app related files/settings when dragging apps to the trash

Submitted by Flauchhaus on September 12, 2008 to Annoyance

When a user uninstalls applications by dragging them to the trash there is no easy option to delete related files (settings, libraries... from the app). This leaves many orphaned files on the HDD. To un/reinstall apps cleanly the user has to locate those (more...)

Remove related files when dragging apps to the trash, and for example a check box to leave settings.

I think that this shouldn't require an App manager, just dragging apps to the trash to uninstall them is a very unique and cool feature (more...)
