Apple! Stop stereotyping PCs!

“At least Microsoft don’t stereotype your products!”

Oh, how I hope you said that in jest.

Safari: not switching to space when search is activated

Wrote on May 16, 2009, 2:23am

I'm not seeing this behaviour. I'm curious; under System Preferences>Exposé & Spaces>Spaces, do you have checked "When switching to an application, switch to a space with open windows for the application"? This may be the problem. I'll hold off voting.

Running 10.5.7 and Safari 4 Beta 5528.17 (Security Update).

Odd phrasing in iTunes Smart Playlist

Wrote on February 6, 2009, 9:44pm

Maybe my wording of the submission should be better.

In casual conversation one would not say that 2008 is less than 2009. There is no confusion — I'm not implying that someone who sees less than could become confused. The submission was about a very minor annoyance with the wording, nothing more.

Odd phrasing in iTunes Smart Playlist

I only used greater than 2007 and less than 2009 to show both the greater than and less than wording at the same time in the screenshot. I could just as easily have made it greater than 1 and less than 3000. The dates are irrelevant.

Excellent idea.

Finder: select files with keyboard

Actually, this is intentional. It is called the addition model of selection, as opposed to the fixed-point model, which seems to be what you want.

Safari: Bookmark Management

I know it's exasperating for me to tell you I can get it working, but I am running out of ideas. Perhaps you have an older version of Safari. Are you running 3.1.2?

Safari: Bookmark Management

Be sure to press Tab twice after using Show All Bookmarks. One press brings the Sidebar into focus, but you must press it again to use the arrow keys.

If I click an item in the sidebar, then press Tab once, I can then use the arrows.

I know what you are talking about. Trust me. Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks. One Tab brings focus to the Collections area on the left. You can use the arrow keys to select Bookmarks Bar, Bookmarks Menu, History, RSS, etc. One more Tab brings focus to the bookmarks themselves, after which you can use the arrow keys. Try it.

Promoted, despite thinking that this is a task for developers.

Finder: No way to refresh a window

I know you want this to be part of the OS, but there is a third-party utility.

Consistent background color during boot, logon, user switching

To tide you over until the login colours stop changing, there is a quite easy method to change the login image.

Stacks: show an icon for each kind of stack

Wrote on September 29, 2008, 9:26pm

mojo2012,
+1. I am using the same overlay hack. My preference would be for Apple to use the current folder icons, but have the folder animate to open when clicked. Then the icons could fly out into a List, Grid or Fan view and be hidden away once clicked again.
