Merge folders option when copying/moving
When copying a folder to a location where a folder with the same name already exists the only option is to replace the folder (and loosing all files from the replaced folder) or stop the copy/move operation.
Add a "merge" button/option when there are duplicate foldernames while copying/moving, so the user can choose what he wants.

When the user copies files in Finder then a window pops up. Its title says: Copy.
When the user moves files from one location to another then the windowtitle is still Copy.
Leopard has this "feature" as well.
Change the title of the window.

The shortcut Cmd+X, which is reserved for the Cut command, simply does not work on items in the Finder. When you select any Finder item, the Copy option under the Edit menu gets enabled but the Cut option remains disabled.
Yes, you can (more...)
Simply enable the feature. It’s already in place but is just disabled for some weird reason.

QuickLook: Play animated GIFs
QuickLook won't play animated gif files, it just shows the first frame. Users have to use Safari or other 3rd party picture viewers to fully preview animated gifs.
Enable playing .gif animations in QuickLook, or provide a .gif plugin for QuickLook.

Filesize of selected file(s) in statusbar
When selecting a file in finder, the statusbar only displays how many items are selected and how much free space there is on the harddisk. You can not see how large the current selected file(s) is/are.
Add the total size of the selected file(s) to the statusbar of the finder window.

Dialog windows lack keyboard shortcuts and tabbing (by default)
By default, tabbing through buttons in a dialog window is off, which makes it ever so bothersome to quickly deal with them. Furthermore there is no proper indication of hotkeys, like you have in Windows (underlining the letter).
For instance, (more...)

Different Spaces with different Desktop Wallpaper
When you change between spaces it's difficult to visually determine in which space you are (the only signal is the option of display the space number in the toolbar)
I think it would be better to allow the use of different desktop wallpaper to each space. I remember some programs did it before leopard, so it must be easy.

Non-resizing windows and lists
There are many examples of Apple-included preferencepanes, utilities or interface elements that can't be resized to show the full width of items in lists, despite there being obvious needs to be able to do so. For example, the Login window itself (more...)
Make all such dialogs resizable. Better still, move printer management back out into its own utility, which was better in Tiger.

Improve printer settings usability
The print dialogs in OS X are unnecessarily complex, presenting each printer capability in a dropdown, which isn't immediately apparent since it's not even labeled.
A tabbed interface would be more efficient, usable, and intuitive.

Delete app related files/settings when dragging apps to the trash
When a user uninstalls applications by dragging them to the trash there is no easy option to delete related files (settings, libraries... from the app). This leaves many orphaned files on the HDD. To un/reinstall apps cleanly the user has to locate those (more...)
Remove related files when dragging apps to the trash, and for example a check box to leave settings.
I think that this shouldn't require an App manager, just dragging apps to the trash to uninstall them is a very unique and cool feature (more...)

Finder: Tabbed browsing in Finder
The Finder has no tabbed browsing option. Tabbed browsing would improve productivity for anyone who is familiar and comfortable with tabbed browsing (a lot of users). Tabbed Browsing is an option in Safari and the Terminal, why not in the Finder?
Add tabbed browsing in Finder, and the ability to drag files to tabs to move/copy them to the location of the tab.
