Exposé: Automatically update when a new window opens/closes

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When a window opens or closes while expose is activated, Exposé doesn't update automatically, so for example it leaves an "death" window space when a window closes while in expose, or when a new window opens it just shows the window in (more...)

Automatically update Exposé on new/closed windows.
The only downside i could imagine is that new windows wouldn't be that noticeable when many windows are open. A short highlighting of the new window in Exposé would fix that nicely, also (more...)

iCal: add todos

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 15, 2008 to Annoyance

If there is some free space in the todo list, then a double click on the white space adds a new todo item. But if the list is full so there is no white space, the only way to add an item is to use the menubar.

One possible solution is, to add a "add todo" icon to the bottom toolbar. This would look like a +, similar to the "add a calendar"-+.

Or at the top of the list there is a static entry "add new todo" that adds (more...)

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 15, 2008 to Annoyance

If you connect to a network share via de "connect to server" dialog, normally after some time you're asked to enter the username and the password.
If you enter the wrong credentials after some time a message is displayed that informs (more...)

The try again button should allow the user to enter the credentials again. The field could be prefilled. So if the user enter the right credentials and the reason why this failed is another one, then the user has just to click ok.

Spaces: overview only on primary screen

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Annoyance

On my dual screen setup I see the spaces overview only on my first screen. The second screen is black. This is a strange behaviour.

Show the spaces overview on each screen. Each screen should only show its own virtual desktops - not others

Dock: let users set the orientation

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

My dock is on the left side of the bottom of the screen - it's not centered. This option can only be activated via some "geek tools" like TinkerTool. Why isn't this a standard option of the Dock?
In my opinion it's much (more...)

Let the user set the dock orientation: left/beginning, right/end, center.

Submitted by tlind on November 5, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When you check a song in iTunes to be either playable or not, its selected state will register on all instances of the song.

Option-click the checkbox should provide uncheck/check of all instances.

Finder: select files with keyboard

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 3, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you select a file in Finder and then use shift and arrow down, the selection is extended to include the next file. If you press shift + arrow up, I would expect to unselect the file and end up with just the original file selected.
But this does (more...)

Adapt the selection functionality so that it works as expected.

Finder: rename files with different owner

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance

If I want to delete a file which I'm not the owner of, then I have to enter my password (I'm in the admin group). The same happens if I want to move a file into a folder with different ownership.
But there is no way to rename a file with (more...)

Let the user rename files with different ownership the same way as normal renaming. Just ask for the password, then enable the rename mode.

Spotlight: don't scan removeable media

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance

If I plug in a (hfs+) usb hard drive Sportlight begins to scan the volume. As I don't want to search this volume this is completely useless - at least for me.

Make an OPTION in the Spotlight prefpane to disable scanning of external media.

Finder: no resource forks on network volumes

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

If i connect to a samba file share, windows and linux users always complain for the strange ._* files that are left behind.
This happens, because non-nac filesystems don't support resource forks.
You can turn of this "feature" (more...)

An option to turn that off should be integrated into the normal finder preferences pane and should be disabled by default.
If the user copies a file to the network share and this will cause the loss of information stored in the resource fork, than (more...)

Multimonitor: desktop background

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance

By default, desktop background images are being stored separately for each screen configuration, eg macbook internal lcd, internal + external, only external.
So you can set a image for each screen. That is quite nice.

But I can't (more...)

Let the user choose, if he wants to have different backgrounds for all screen configurations or just one setting.

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you select a text in a normal aqua textbox with shift and arrow left, and then use arrow right while holding down shift, the selected text gets unselected again. If you do this while holding down shift+alt/cmd this works as well.
