Dock: Give user the option to require a click at bottom of screen to reveal the Dock.

Submitted by groundfloormusic on November 21, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

For many users, "Automatically hide and show the Dock" may be preferable to seeing the Dock all the time, but it's still a rather poor option. The problem is that the Dock far too often springs up unbidden. Horizontal scroll bars are particularly (more...)

Users should have the option of requiring a click at the bottommost 1 or 2 pixels of the screen, without which the Dock will not appear. This would not be preferable for all situations, but for many it would be ideal. I believe the absence of such an (more...)

Exposé: Automatically update when a new window opens/closes

Submitted by Flauchhaus on November 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When a window opens or closes while expose is activated, Exposé doesn't update automatically, so for example it leaves an "death" window space when a window closes while in expose, or when a new window opens it just shows the window in (more...)

Automatically update Exposé on new/closed windows.
The only downside i could imagine is that new windows wouldn't be that noticeable when many windows are open. A short highlighting of the new window in Exposé would fix that nicely, also (more...)

iCal: better todo management

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 10, 2008 to Usability

It would be greate to have some kind of todo classification (date, priority, ...). iCal just shows a plain list of colord todos. Yes there is a priority flag and I can sort after title, date, calendar, priority.
But what if I want to sort after (more...)

Enhance the iCal Todo Management.

Mail: message disposition notification

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Every other (gui) mail programm I know has such a feature.
But in Apple Mail it's not possible. I can't send mails that automatically send an answer if the receipient gets them.

Add this "feature" to Mail

Dock: let users set the orientation

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

My dock is on the left side of the bottom of the screen - it's not centered. This option can only be activated via some "geek tools" like TinkerTool. Why isn't this a standard option of the Dock?
In my opinion it's much (more...)

Let the user set the dock orientation: left/beginning, right/end, center.

Safari: no fullscreen/kiosk mode

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 6, 2008 to Usability

Firefox for win (and maybe linux) has a function called fullscreen mode. This shows just the address bar, a few buttons and the content on the whole screen.
Sometimes that can be very useful.

Safari does not offer such a function (more...)

Implement a Safari fullscreen mode that only shows addressbar + toolbar, bookmark and tabbar. No apple menu, no dock, no desktop!

iTunes song checkbox

Submitted by tlind on November 5, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When you check a song in iTunes to be either playable or not, its selected state will register on all instances of the song.

Click on the checkbox to uncheck/check the selected song in current playlist.
Option-click the checkbox should provide uncheck/check of all instances.

Finder: select files with keyboard

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 3, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you select a file in Finder and then use shift and arrow down, the selection is extended to include the next file. If you press shift + arrow up, I would expect to unselect the file and end up with just the original file selected.
But this does (more...)

Adapt the selection functionality so that it works as expected.

Feature Request: add a basic drawing tool

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Usability

Mac OS has a very powerful texteditor, address book, mail app and a browser. But there is not drawing tool. Why? I don't want a photoshop or corel draw. But at least a very basic drawing tool would be nice.

System: file system errors

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Usability

If the system partition has some file system errors, this can't be corrected while the system is running.
There are two options:
* boot from mac os dvd and use the disk utility
* boot into safe mode and use a command line utility
(more...)

A nice way would be to check the disk integrity each nth boot and show a graphical gui for the file system check (there are errors, do you want to correct: yes/no).

Another way would be to boot a graphical into safe mode (like on windows) (more...)

Finder: integrate SCP connections into "Connect to server"

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Usability

This is a feature request!

It would be nice if the Finder would support ssh/scp connections fia the "connect to server dialog": eg ssh://myserver/share or scp://myserver/share

Implement ssh/scp protocol support for the "connect to server" dialog

Pages: text selection

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If you select a text in a normal aqua textbox with shift and arrow left, and then use arrow right while holding down shift, the selected text gets unselected again. If you do this while holding down shift+alt/cmd this works as well.

But (more...)

Change Pages selection function to the system standard

Finder: more columns for detail list view

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Why can Finder just show 7 different file infos in the detailed list view?
What if I want to show mp3 tags in the columns?

Let the user choose of much more file infos in detailed list view:
* mp3 tags (interpret, album title, ...)
* jpeg image infos (width, color depth, ...)
* owner infos, unix acls, ...

And don't make this available (more...)

Safari: Implement OpenSearch engine support

Submitted by mojo2012 on November 2, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

By default Safari just has one search engine: Google. This is annoying. I'm used to have wikipedia in the search box.
There is no option to change the search engine nor is there the possibility to have more than one search engine to choose.

At least let the user choose the search engine.

Better:
Implement the OpenSearch functionality (or some similar concept), eg, like firefox. So you could go to amazon, click a link and a new search engine is added to the list of available (more...)
