Stacks should update changes such as renaming and custom icons

Submitted by migueld on June 30, 2009 to Usability

When making changes such as renaming files, or customizing icons, they are not updated on a stack. For example, when renaming a file, if the stack is sorted by name, it doesn't re-arrange by the new naming. Also when customizing icons within a folder, (more...)

Stacks should update any and all changes such as renaming and custom icons.

Finder: use the searchbox for filtering of folder contents

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 24, 2009 to Usability

The searchbox in the finder window is somehow broken. The fact that everytime you enter a search term the whole computer is searched is simply not understandable (from my point of view).

I (partly) like the way the "searchbox" in vista/win7 works. So I'have an idea how to adapt such a behaviour to Mac OS X:
If you enter text (without pressing return) into the seachbox of a finder window then the folder contents should (more...)

Finder: opening file removes undo option

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Most of the operations that can be done though finder can be undone afterwards, eg. renaming the fileextension. But if you open a file after doing something, the last operation cannot be undone anymore.

In my case I sometimes get ISO files (more...)

Allow undo even after opening a file between the opening process and the last operation.

Finder: listview and copying files with keyboardshortcut

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 20, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

If the Finder is in listview and a sub folder is opened with the "triangle" symbol, the shortcut cmd-v doesn't paste the file in the opened/selected subfolder but in the main folder that is opened in the current finder window.

If a sub folder in listview is "opened" (triangle top is on the bottom) and the folder or a file in the folder is selected, then a cmd-v should paste the file into this folder, and not in the folder that is currently shown in the finder window.

Multimonitor: autodetection fails after unplugging second monitor

Submitted by mojo2012 on June 14, 2009 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

I have a Macbook Pro and sometimes I connect an external monitor and use it as the main screen. The internal screen is disabled (booting with closed lid). When opening the lid, the internal screen stays black, but after unplugging the external screen, (more...)

Pressing F7 on Macbook Pro should not only rotate the display mode but include the autodetection to check if the second screen is still there.

(I don't know how other Macs handle that).

Different Dock layout for each Space

Submitted by linuxforever on May 26, 2009 to Usability

There is only one single Dock layout for all Spaces so that a Space dedicated to image manipulation for instance has all the unnecessary quick access icons at hand and is missing the graphics software related starters instead because they would otherwise (more...)

- Offer an option to set up a Space specific Dock for each Space. It is only overlapping the standard which can still be accessed through a "switch Dock button".
- rearrange (group) and highlight the icons of the opened windows of the (more...)

Finder (feature request): rename more files at once

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 19, 2009 to Usability

Renaming many files in finder is very tedious. Here are two propositions for improving the rename functionality.

It would be cool to have a bulk rename mode. I can think of this two sub modes:
1. If more files are selected and the rename mode is activated, only the first file should be in rename mode. After pressing return to commit the change, the next file (more...)

iCal: I can't find any way to delete calendar entries or ToDos.

Submitted by hoosiercatguy on May 19, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I believe there should be an easy way of deleting entries of any kind in iCal (e.g., calendar events or To Dos. I can't think of any reason why this capability should not be present for other types of entries, but perhaps there is one.) If an event (more...)

(1) Proposed solution: I think Apple should include a DELETE button or function within iCal.
(2) Alternatively (my 2nd choice) you could use the DELETE key on the keyboard to accomplish this function.

Preview - Next/Previous active for single item

Submitted by iHateAurora on May 17, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you have a single item open in preview the next/previous buttons are still active and clickable. This is counter-intuitive because it hints that there are next and previous items.

In Safari (and other browsers) the next and previous (more...)

I believe they should be greyed out according to the following rules:

[1] Single item - both buttons greyed out
[2] First item - previous button greyed out
[3] Last item - next button greyed out

Click-Through: no consistent behaviour

Submitted by mojo2012 on May 12, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you click on a file in an inactive Finder window then the file gets selected. A click on a toolbar icon doesn't do anything. iCal reacts the same way. But Safari and Mail have no click-through. If Mail is inactive, you can't select a different (more...)

Either completly deactivate click through for all apps or make it the default for all apps.

Press enter to open folder or file

Submitted by NINJA90 on May 3, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Like many, I use a windows quite often as well as mac, so it is really annoying to press enter on a file or folder to have mac's finder start changing the folder or filename.

Fix it. Windows does it just fine, so model that!

Safari: maximum simultanious downloads

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 28, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you want to quickly download many files, you have only two choices:
* Either download them all simultaniously
* Or use a download manager tool

I hate downloading simultaniously, because it slows down all downloads and the (more...)

Let the user set the maximum number of simultanouse download jobs. Safari then adds all downloads but starts them only up to tha number. All other downloads are "paused". If one download is finished, Safari starts the next "paused" (more...)

Safari: tabbar

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 19, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

If you've so much tabs open, that Safari can't display them in the tabbar, a >> appears on the right side of the tabbar. Through clicking on it you can access the tabs, that can't be shown on the tabbar anymore.
If you often (more...)

Add an option to adopt the Firefox behaviour: enable horizontal scrolling.
So if you scroll to the right side, the left tabs disappear and all tabs on the right side are shown.

Make sharing network files "Just work".

Submitted by Lyris on April 18, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

Like a lot of people, I have a Windows Vista based PC, and a Mac as a second laptop machine. I want to copy files between the two. WHY is it so hard? At times, the PC can see the Mac, but the Mac can't ever see the PC. In the end, I've had to (more...)

Safari: download window as tab

Submitted by mojo2012 on April 18, 2009 to Usability

Safari download window is a separate little window on the desktop. Imho this behaviour should be more consistent with the whole UI.
Like the bookmark manager, there should be an option to show the download window in a tab. I can even imagine some (more...)

Show the download window in a tab window or in a sidebar.
